North Avenue (1600 N.) is the beginning and home stretch of my daily downtown bicycle commute from Chicago's West Side.

The North Avenue Traffic Report is a web-zine about my life as framed by these human-powered movements.

heading west on north ave is always more of a bitch than heading east. the whole road is war-torn and shot-to-shit between where i live and halstead, where the condos and interior decorating, fashion, and electronics big box stores take over. for some reason the majority of potholes and washboard cement patches are in the west bound lane. for the yuppies it serves as a warning that they are entering a non white neighborhood and they should power up the windows of their SUVs and lock the doors, unless they are looking for sex or drugs. for the people who live in my neighborhood, the mostly puerto rican humboldt park, it's just another sign that the city has other priorities besides fixing up the road to their houses. for me, it means that when i head down-town to work i can haul ass.
